about the artist
[pictures from wikepedia]
"Gilbert Stuart (1755–1828): Stuart learned art abroad in the European tradition, but his style was all his own. Known for his ability to set subjects at ease, he believed inner character was reflected in a person’s physical features. Stuart’s portraits of George Washington, whom he described as a man of great passions, are among his most famous works." [from http://picturingamerica.neh.gov/index.php?sec=gallery]
His best known work, the unfinished portrait of George Washington that is sometimes referred to as The Athenaeum, was begun in 1796 and never finished
We get that this picture is never finished.
What is this picture still missing?
We don't know exactly.

symbols 2
The last time we focus on the rainbow, and this time let's look at the sword, which is in Washington's hand.
It is a little bit different from the usual sword...isn't it? But i am not sure. wikepedia is our friends.;)
"the sword that he holds on his left side is a dress sword and not a battle sword (symbolizing a democratic form of government, rather than a monarchy or military dictatorship)."
It means that he emphasize in democracy more than military. But wait, what is dress sword.
"The small sword or smallsword (also court sword, fr: épée de cour or dress sword) is a light one-handed sword designed for thrusting which evolved out of the longer and heavier rapier of the late Renaissance. "
it seems smaller than the usual sword..whatever.

info.
ok here is a picture from google, i like it.
it circles six places in this picture, so these six places must have the special symbols. let me do some researches about this...
..let's skip the little things on the chair because i have talked it before, in the last post.
Look at the rainbow in the right-up corner of this picture. Look up in the wikipedia.."In the sky, storm clouds appear on the left while a rainbow appears on the right, signifying the American Revolutionary War giving way to the peace and prosperity of the new United States after the 1783 Treaty of Paris. " Oh there is a storm outside though it doesn't circle it. And, maybe i should do some research about American Revolutionary War. "began as a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and thirteen British colonies in North America, and ended in a global war between several European great powers." The war brights the birth of America, i think. And Washington led the people to fight with Great Britain....

information about
George Washington is the father of America, he is the first president of USA. So many people admires him, maybe the artist of this art drew this because he admires and loves Washington.
The artist, Gilbert Stuart, "he believed inner character was reflected in a person’s physical features", so with no doubt, we trust that from this post, Washington's physical features must have something different from others.
In the post, we can see that Washington stand in front of a chair. And on this chair you can see the little thing which is medallion. The thing which medallion shows I think is the national flag of America. We can find many details in this post are relating to America.
Okay let's pay our attention back to Washinton. He is in black and usually black means august, I think.“Stuart painted Washington from life, showing him standing up, dressed in a black velvet suit with an outstretched hand held up in an oratorical manner (which could be characterized as "commanding and stern yet open and inclusive").” See, I said that the artist must draw something meaningful. I'm right.
Just post a little bit today.;)
by the way, quotes are from wikipedia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lansdowne_portrait
